Report of interview with County Judge Alan B. Sadler by Paul Gebolys, Precinct 4 Republican Chairman (elect)
Our County Judge, Alan B, Sadler has taken
a position in the forefront of Republican officeholders endorsing
Governor Perry's proposal for a 3% cap on annual appraisals of
homeowner's property.
The cap is the keystone to the governor's sweeping reform for
a tax system that has developed in ways unresponsive to taxpayers
and inequitable to the educational and local governmental bodies
it was established to support.
In an interview answering questions from Precinct 4 property owners,
Judge Sadler said that the proposal "protects the taxpayers
from continuous and arbitrary increases". He recalled that
a major theme of his career has been his leadership in restraining
taxation while insuring adequate county services. Sighting that
it is vital that a county growing as fast as Montgomery County
has adequate funding combined with a fair and responsive tax system.
"It is the reason I am sitting at this desk today" he
said. Having carefully reviewed the governor's proposals, he gave
examples of how growth does not always produce a 1:1 increase
in tax revenues. He also explained the challenges created by spurts
on growth in both high income and low income areas of the county
along with those created by annexation and illegal immigration.
But stating that some check is needed to prevent runaway tax increases,
Judge Sadler stated that he believed the Perry Plan "provides
for the growth in larger faster growing counties" such as
ours, as he strongly endorsed the efforts of the Governor..
Thank you for sharing your time and insights with the voters of
Precinct 4.
