Republican State Convention Report
When the 2010 Republican State Convention adjourned
on Saturday evening, June 12th, Delegates and Alternates left
with a strong sense of unity leading up to the fall campaign that
will determine whether the nation will chose between those who
favor a bigger, more intrusive and costly government with less
freedom and those who favor a smaller, less intrusive and costly
government with more freedom. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour
asked Delegates and Alternates to strongly consider unity as important
as purity in 2010. He reminded the nearly 8,000 attendees of Ronald
Reagan's position of support for Republicans with whom he agreed
80% or more of the time.
Governor Rick Perry led a series of Republican officeholders who
spoke eloquently about the necessity of electing a Republican
majority in the U. S. Congress and the U. S. Senate; and electing
all Republican State Officials and majorities in the State Senate
and House of Representatives that would reverse the radical, liberal
policies promoted by the Obama Administration. Perry urged Republicans
to get "fired-up" for this challenge, and he was cheered
on by an excited and enthusiastic audience.
The three-way contest for State Chairman between incumbent Cathie
Adams, Tom Mechler and Steve Munisteri was won by Houston Attorney
Munisteri when former SREC member Mechler of Amarillo threw his
support to Munisteri after the first ballot. Cathie Adams of Dallas
had served as State Chairman since October of 2009 when she defeated
Montgomery County's own Melinda Fredricks in an election by the
State Republican Executive Committee. With the election of Munisteri,
State law dictated that the State Party Vice-Chairman shall be
a woman.
Melinda Fredricks, who had run for Vice-Chairman as a team with
Mechler, was elected Party Vice-Chairman after two other candidates
withdrew. Congratulations to Melinda! We are immensely proud of
her. She is the first Montgomery County Republican to ever be
elected to this position. Melinda was appointed by Governor Perry
to serve as a member of the Texas Medical Board and now serves
as a member of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. In 2009
she was actively involved in the fight to pass the photo ID bill.
She currently holds the position of Executive Assistant for the
County Party.
Another Montgomery County Republican, Rosemary Roe of the Woodlands,
was re-elected to serve another two-year term as State Republican
Committeewoman for Senatorial District #4. Roe also served as
the District Caucus Chairman. In Senatorial District #3 another
County Republican, Cory Colby of Willis, lost a very close election
to David Bellows of Lumberton (Hardin County) for Senatorial District
Committeeman. Bellows replaces term-limited Jim Wiggins of Bentwater
who served as District Caucus Chairman. Thanks Jim for a job well
done! And congratulations David! Montgomery County looks forward
to working with him in Senatorial District #3. Randy Bates of
The Woodlands served on the Convention Rules Committee.
Five of our local Teenage Republicans served as Pages at the Convention.
They were: Andrew Karl, Seth Karl, Nolan Taylor, Nadi Taylor and
Seraiah Wolf. Thanks to Holly Arbuckle, Adult Advisor of the TARS,
and Rob Karl for supervising these impressive young people.
Two Montgomery County Delegates, Olene Heasley and Cheryl Bolt,
were interviewed by an Austin American Statesman reporter about
their choice for President in 2012. Their responses appeared
in the weekend edition of the paper.
Thanks to all the Delegates, Alternates and guests from Montgomery
County who attended the Convention. The County was well represented
by these dedicated Republicans. The Montgomery County Republican
Party made its presence known at the 2010 Convention.

Your Precinct Chairman, Paul Gebolys: Montgomery County Republican Party
Having served on several committees of the
county party over the last several years, (Executive, Database,
Leadership, Financial Review, etc.), I was pleased to be selected
by County Chairman, Dr. Wilkerson, to work for you as vice chairman,
on the Leadership and Organization Committee this coming year
and to have that appointment approved by the County Executive
Committee
( i.e. the 83 fellow precinct chairs).
Precinct Conventions have been held every other
year in our precinct to allow Republican voters an opportunity
to speak their mind and submit resolutions to be passed up thru
the Senatorial, and state conventions oand possibly to find a
place on the National Republican Platform. This year I will again
be a member of the Resolutions Committee at the Senatorial Convention,
so I will be able to "help along" the resolutions approved
at our Precinct Convention.
The convention is open to all who vote in the Primary Election
of that year. This year it was held at 8:00 PM, March 2nd, at
the Copperwood Apartments Community Room (same location as voting
earlier that day)
Previously announced at the County Executive Committee meeting, was the selection of Mrs. Melinda Fredericks as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Wilkerson. Montgomery County is leading the way in Republican Party growth in Texas, necessitating, for the first time, the addition of a paid professional to help carry the Republican message to all parts of the county. It was an honor to work with four other party members in interviewing and evaluating the candidates for this position. Mrs. Fredericks was an unanimous choice of the selection committee, which included your Precinct Chairman.
